CHIMERA VIOLETS are a separate group of violets that do not transmit the varietal color when propagated by leaf cuttings.
The definition of "chimera" is a plant with a special color of flowers, due to the individual structure of the cellular tissue. "Chimera" is a mutant plant in which there are two types of cells with a genetically different structure. You can recognize a chimera by the presence of a clear strip of a different color on each petal. These are quite rare, expensive plants. The reason for this is the limited possibilities of reproduction. The multi-color of violets is associated with a change in the cytoplasmic structures of pigment-synthesizing cells. "Chimeras" have a more ordered (layered) arrangement of such cells, so their reproduction is possible provided that the formed tissue is completely preserved. This can only be done by stepsons or rooting of peduncles.
